About Deborah

Originally from Queens, NY, I’ve spent much of my life in NYC, but my heart now lies in Northampton, Massachusetts, where I’m a dedicated advocate and activist. My journey from the bustling streets of New York to the vibrant community of Northampton has shaped my commitment to public service and community engagement. I bring a wealth of experience, a strong background in healthcare, and a dedication to making positive change to my candidacy for Northampton City Council.

A Lifelong Activist

Throughout my life, I have been actively involved in various causes and social justice movements. From working on AIDS-related issues in the ’80s to organizing rallies and marches in response to the last administration’s policies, unlawful acts, and critical national events, I have consistently demonstrated my commitment to fighting for a more inclusive and equitable society.

Community Engagement and Leadership

My dedication to community engagement and leadership is evident in my involvement with local organizations and initiatives. I co-founded Indivisible Northampton, a grassroots organization that brought together like-minded individuals to advocate for progressive change. Through this platform, I facilitated dialogues with local politicians, moderated debates, and organized impactful rallies addressing issues such as healthcare, immigration, climate change, and women’s rights. My collaboration with activists, politicians, lawyers, educators, and youth groups showcases my ability to foster meaningful partnerships and drive collective action.

Professional Background and Expertise

With over 40 years of experience as a Radiology Technologist specializing in Interventional and Neuro-Interventional Radiology, I possess a deep understanding of healthcare and its impact on individuals and communities. My knowledge and expertise in this field provide me with valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities related to healthcare policy and advocacy.

Passions and Personal Interests

Beyond my activism and professional pursuits, I nurture my passions and interests. An avid road biker, gravel rider, and skier, I explore the scenic routes of Northampton and embrace the region’s natural beauty. I am also a Patti Smith fan and find inspiration in art and culture.

Commitment to Northampton's Growth and Vibrancy

My decision to run for City Council stems from my deep connection to Northampton and my desire to contribute to its ongoing growth and vibrancy. I am particularly excited about the progress in Ward 2, witnessing the addition of Village Hill’s Cohousing, mixed-use apartments, and the revitalization of existing buildings, the addition of subsidised housing at 23 Laurel. I envision Northampton as a thriving and inclusive community, and I am committed to championing initiatives that promote sustainable development, community engagement, and a high quality of life for all residents.

I invite you to join me in shaping the future of Northampton through my candidacy for City Council.
